A hunter was found dead after being reported missing on Saturday in Curtin Township, the Centre County Coroner’s Office reported on Monday.
It was the second case of a hunter being found dead after a search in the county over the weekend, and in both cases no foul play is suspect. The body of a hunter who the coroner’s office says likely died of natural causes was found on Saturday morning in Gregg Township following a search the began on Friday night.
The identities of both individuals have not been released.
In the Curtin Township case, the hunter was reported missing at about 6:50 p.m. after failing to return to camp and found deceased around 8:30 p.m., according to Deputy Coroner Matthew Burnheimer.. The individual’s family has been notified and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
Howard Fire Company, Citizen’s Hook and Ladder of Milesburg and state police at Rockview were dispatched for the search and assisted by other hunters.
Weather, hazardous road conditions and rugged terrain “made recovery efforts challenging,” but the operations were completed safely, according to Burnheimer.
